The
Education Office of the Jerónimos Monastery/ Torre de Belém
will soon be able to provide guided tours to other specific groups,
namely the blind and the elderly.
Finding oneself in the very same place where important events took
place stimulates the interest of pupils and adds value to classroom
study.
The Education Office will offer you all the support you need to
plan a study visit.
PLANNING
YOUR VISIT
You can plan your visit through this website. If you prefer to make
a prior visit to gather information, you can do it in the Documentation
Centre of the Jerónimos Monastery/ Torre de Belém or
together with the Education Office.
In this last case you must make an appointment with the Education
Office, and you can enter the historical buildings for free.
We also suggest you read some of the publications and documents available
in the Documentation Center so that you can get a better understanding
of these historic buildings.
BOOKING
APPOINTMENTS
The teacher who is in charge of the visit (or a member of the school
board) must contact the Education Office and book the visit in advance
(at least 10 days) by telephone, fax, or e.mail, and confirm it 4
days before the visit.
Each group of 15 pupils must always visit the Monument with a teacher
or adult. This person will be the responsible one for the pupils’
behaviour during their visit.
On the very day of the visit you´ll have to show a document
from school with the following items: day of the visit, number of
pupils, number of teachers/adults, name of the teacher in charge of
the visit. Then, the whole group will have free entance.
For security, it is necessary to limit the number of people inside
the buildings per hour. So, we kindly ask you to follow the suggested
schedule.
SAFETY
IN THE HISTORIC BUILDINGS
Before the visit pupils must be told how to behave in the historic
buildings, and the rules to follow - pupils must keep close to the
teacher/accompanying adult, move in an orderly manner without making
unnecessary noise, so as not to disturb other visitors.
When the group arrives, the teacher in charge will have to present
the school document at the ticket office and follow the receptionist’s
instructions. Meanwhile, pupils will wait outside the main door of
Mosteiro dos Jerónimos or next to the bridge which leads to
the main door of Torre de Belém.
